A Decade of Scandalous Fashion Ads

Marc Jacobs may have the “prim and proper” of it down for creating an ad campaign, as seen in this video of models Christy Turlington, Karen Elson, and Natalia Vodianova in the making of the Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2010 Ad Campaign. But will people still be talking about it in 10 years?
The Guardian, meanwhile, reports on some of fashion’s more scandalous ads over the past decade, including Venice’s recent ban of Bulgari’s ad featuring a nude Julianne Moore with some cute lion cubs and a handbag. (View photos at TheImproper.com). Frankly, my eyes are on the cubs, sorry Julianne!
Also mentioned are Diesel’s “Be Stupid” ads– which while unsurprisingly dumb, are probably no more shocking (although funnier) than the huge billboards that have appeared on Sunset Blvd. or NYC’s Houston St. of half naked models and guys plumpin’ out in their Calvins.
The Brits are right about the shock factor of the “full on, let’s get it on” ads, such as the infamous Sophie Dahl for Yves Saint Laurent…and the other YSL ad with full frontal (not a straight man’s ad). Really, though, when is fashion not pushing the edge of decency? Isn’t it half the fun?
